Our Gear

If you've ever watched one of our videos and wondered, "What camera are they using?" or "What do they edit on?", you're in the right place. Here's the gear we actually travel with and use to create every episode of The Sand Van.

Filming Equipment

Every photo and video starts with one of these cameras. They're the ones we've trusted to document our travels, capture unforgettable moments, and tell the stories you see on our channel.

Canon R7

The Canon R7 is one of our go-to cameras for photography and filming our YouTube channel. With outstanding image quality, fast autofocus, and excellent video capabilities, it's the camera we trust to capture many of our adventures around Australia and beyond.

Go Pro 11

The GoPro Hero 11 is the camera we use when we don't want to worry about the camera. From hanging it out the van window to taking it on rugged hikes and outdoor adventures, it's built to handle the knocks while still delivering great footage. Some of our favourite travel shots have come from this little camera.

Action Camera Setup

Iphone 17 pro Max

Don't underestimate the power of a smartphone! The iPhone 17 Pro Max has become one of our primary cameras, particularly when filming solo. When you've got a dog lead in one hand and an adventure ahead of you, having a camera that's always ready to go makes life much easier. Its combination of convenience and impressive video quality means it features in more of our videos than you might expect.

Smartphone With White Screen

DJI Avata 2

The DJI Avata 2 is our drone of choice when we want to show just how incredible a destination really is. It lets us capture sweeping aerial views, fly along rugged coastlines, and reveal landscapes in a way that ground-based cameras simply can't. Some of our most memorable shots have come from seeing the world through the Avata's eyes.

DJI NEO

When I'm filming solo, this drone is a game changer. It's perfect for follow shots on walks and hikes, and when we are together, it lets us capture both of us in the adventure without needing someone behind the camera. It's lightweight, easy to use, and comes with us almost everywhere.

Accessories

It's often the small accessories that make filming so much easier. From microphones to everyday camera gear, these are the items we use regularly and wouldn't want to be without.

DJI Mic Mini

Good audio makes a bigger difference than most people realise, and these microphones have completely changed the way we film. We use them with both our iPhone 17 and Canon R7, and they give us clear, reliable audio without any fuss. They're now one of the first things we pack before heading out to film.

Rode Video-Micro Compact (on Camera)

This little microphone lives on our Canon R7. It's simple, lightweight, and does a great job of capturing clear audio when we're filming out and about. Whether we're walking through a new town or sharing a moment on the trail, it's our go-to on-camera microphone.

RØDE NT-USB+

Every voiceover you hear in our videos is recorded with this microphone. It delivers crisp, clear audio and has become an essential part of our editing setup. If you've ever enjoyed one of our narrated adventures, chances are it started right here.

Editing

Behind every video is hours of editing. These are the computers, software, and accessories we rely on to turn our adventures into the episodes you see each week.

Final Cut Pro

We've edited hundreds of videos in Final Cut Pro, and we wouldn't want to use anything else. It's intuitive, powerful, and handles all of our footage with ease, making it an essential part of bringing our adventures to life.

Canva

We use Canva for all of our YouTube thumbnails and just about every other design project that pops up. It's quick, easy to use, and makes creating professional-looking graphics simple, even when we're editing on the road.

MacBook Pro

We both use a 16-inch MacBook Pro to edit our videos, manage social media, and pretty much run The Sand Van. They're powerful enough to handle hours of 4K footage without missing a beat and, living in a van, they also double as our TV at the end of the day!
